Shropshire has a huge variety of clubs and activities for young people.
Youth Clubs
These can be provided directly by Shropshire Council, by well-known national organisations like the Scouts, Girl Guides and Young Farmers and lots by local voluntary clubs that support their local young people.
Clubs and organisations that display the Shropshire Youth logo meet the council’s minimum standard which means that:
- Staff have current DBS/CRB checks
- They have health & safety and safeguarding policies in place
- They are insured
- Staff are trained or receive support to get trained.
Sports clubs
Similarly offer great opportunities for young people, many of these are supported by their NGBs (National Governing Bodies) which ensure that the quality of their provision is safe and well supervised. The national standards programme for sports clubs is ClubMark and there is a broad range of sports clubs in Shropshire that have attained that standard. ClubMark sports clubs have:
- Named officers with documented roles and responsibilities
- Club and NGB Child Protection and Safeguarding policies
- Named Welfare Officer
- Emergency procedure policies
- Sports coaches qualified to SCUK and NGB levels
- Enhanced CRB checks for coaches and officers working with young and vulnerable people
Clubs carry out an annual self-review audit and renew ClubMark every 3 years
